"In his day he signalized himself in the defense and support of his Church and Country, and next to the Honorable Society, is justly accounted the prime patron of Emmznuel Church at New Castle." This tablet was placed to his memory by the third Bishop of Delaware as a mark of respect for the spirit of loyalty to the Church shown by one of the first and most worthy of Delaware Laymen.

A.D. 1831 This tablet i s erected by his executor i n remembrance of his liberal benefactions to thi s Church, i n the days of adversity, and of those virtues which endeared him to his friends.

STEPHEN WILSON PRESSTMAN Late Rector of this Parish Who died the 1st of September A.D. 1843. He was earnest in zeal Faithful in works and pure in faith; In manners mild and courteous In mind, calm clear and thoughtful; In heart, benevolent and true. May his example ever dwell in this, the place of his labours, and teach to all succeeding generations the Holy lesson of a Christian life.

George Ross First Rector of this Church sent as a Missionary in 1705, by the Society for propagating the Gospel in foreign parts. He was the son of David Ross of Balblair, Ross-shire, Scotland, born 1680. He graduated at the University of Edinburgh in 1700, and after serving this Parish faithfully for fifty years, died at New Castle in the 75th year of his age. He was eminent for his piety, learning, and zeal for the cause of Christ, Erected by his great granddaughter Mary Rcss of Lancaster, Pennsylvania

I;l.iuer this stone are buried the remaills of the Reverend Walter Eacket-t, who vhiie a Missionary, discharged with great success, the duties of the Pastoral office at Appoquininiy about five years. He was born in Frasersbury, in Bampf, a province of Scotland, and was descended from the ancient and respectsble family of Hackett. His life w~s blameless; in spirit, meek, in office faithful; in labors abundant. He died lamented by many good, but by none more than his beloved wife who is pleased to erect to the memory of her worthy husband this sepulchral monument. He died March 7, 1733, aged 33 years.

"Together down they sink in social sleep Together freed their gentle spirits fly to scenes where love & bliss immortal reign." It is intended also as a Memorial of deep grief for the untimely death of a much beloved & lamented brother Henry Van Dyke, Esq'r. a Lieut. in the Navy of the United States. Cut off in the bloom and vigor of life at the age of 23 years. "Tis God that lifts our comforts high Or sinks them in the grave He gives and 'Blessed be His name' He takes but what He gave. Peace all repining passions then Let each rebellious sigh Be silent at His sov'reign will And every murmur die."
